HAPPY FATHERS DAY! Special Guest Contributor, Michael Rabatin, producer of ADHome Design Show
"The most rewarding part of working in Men's Design at Ralph Lauren was a lasting appreciation for dressing and how to do so. One evening my son, Hudson, watched me transform from my work clothes--often a suit or blazer or a motorcycle jacket--into my Tux--for a formal party. To him it was like watching superman put on his cape. It opened a whole new world and we launched into a three month sojourn into the basics of wardobing. He needed to know everything and could soon recognize a shawl or club collar, he appreciated working button holes, and knew why the pleats of a cummerbund are worn facing up. He started to amass a smart collection of pocket squares, suits and blazers....and insisted on real ties since after 3 tries he mastered the technique. His new wardrobe was worn to school and out for dinner whatever the restaurant is. Harper, my oldest son, has always picked up on my weekend look and gravitates to great pants, t-shirts and fine motorcycle jackets. He has my hair and was born with a sense of ease carrying himself and now he is very comfortable wearing embroidered jeans and a soccer jersey topped off with a hoodie or one of his many motorcycle jackets. "Just like you--and Superman"--they say! Thankfully, we have dressing down and all feel good having a sense of style.
